Bavaria Relief Stein,"stone-grey", 0.5 Ltr. with pewter lid
Saluting the Free State of Bavaria with the state's Lion Crest in deep relief as its dominant motif, this stein is a must for every collector and beer connoisseur. The text beneath "Gott mit dir, du Land der Bayern" ("God shall be with you, land of the Bavarians") quotes the first line of the Bavarian Anthem. The Neuschwanstein castle and the Munich Marienplatz as deep relief side motifs represent Bavaria's history as well as famous art and lifestyle. This stein was decorated in the so-called "Old German Style" Stonegrey technique: After cobalt blue color has been applied on the stein, the cobalt is removed with small sponges and tissue from the raised areas so that the cobalt remains in the re-cessed parts of the decor. After this has been completed, the stein is coated with transparent glaze to "seal" the stein and it is fired in the killn. This kind of stein gets a very unique look, resulting from the color combination of the natural clay color (grey stoneware) and the cobalt blue coloring. Alternatively, we do offer this stein in the so-called "cobalt, hand-painted" version as well: After the same production steps as for the "Old German Style" technique, the motifs are painted with color per hand and fired afterwards again. Both versions have their own charme and it is just a matter of your personal taste that makes you chose what fits best to you. If you are interested how this stein might look in the "Cobalt blue, multi colored" version, then please refer to article # 393/BZ

German Purity Law Stein 1 L, cobalt, hand-painted, pewter figurine "brewer"
It’s the foam-topped pride of a beer-loving nation: The German Reinheitsgebot, or purity law, which is the world’s oldest food safety law still in existence, is now more than 500 years old. The statute limits German beer brewers to just four ingredients: malt, hops, yeast and water. The original 1516 Bavarian law governed that the only ingredients allowed were malt (germinated, dried barley), hops and water. The properties of yeast were unknown at the time, but it was later allowed, as was wheat, which was initially reserved for baking bread. Even the variety of brewing materials is not manifold, the 1,350+ German breweries do produce more than 6,000 different beers. Just try a couple of various German beers and you will taste the difference. And since around 400 million gallons of beer are exported from Germany all over the world, you might be able to find a few German brews at your place as well. Like the Reinheitsgebot, steins did fulfill a hygienic purpose (to keep the beer cool (=fresh) and clean). Therefore it was out of question that we at KING Werk had to create a very special collector piece at the law’s 500th anniversary in honor to the brewing craftsmenship. The two panels to each side of the handle show German brewers, doing their “miraculous work” by turning water into beer. The front panel shows the profile of Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria who established and enforced the German Reinheitsgebot and the most important text part of the purity law which translates more or less to “”We also insist, that in our cities, markets, and on the countryside for (making) any beer nothing else must be used than barley, hops and water”. Crafted with pride by our most skilled artists at King-Werk, this stein is a perfect decoration for your home PLUS a great drinking vessel for enjoying a cold brew. If you haven’t already started collecting stein, then this shall be a great piece to start with. Standing almost 12 inches tall, having lots of relief work as well as hand-painting plus being crowned with a lid made of genuine pewter. On top of this, a brewer figurine made of solid pewter has been cast and soldered onto the lid. So there are many reasons to get this stein. Limited to 500 pieces world-wide, being individually numbered, each stein comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Better hurry and get your piece – As there are only limited quantities available. Volume: 1.0 Liter / 34 oz Height Approx: 12"

Loreley Stein 0.5 Ltr., cobalt, hand-painted, pewter lid, Thewalt 1893
The Loreley is an approx. 450 feet tall steep slate rock on the right river bank of the Rhine River at Sankt Goarshausen and it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The name derives from the old Rhine dialect word "lureln" (murmuring) and the Celtic word "ley" (rock). The heavy currents of the Rhine as well as a small waterfall created a murming sound. This sound, combined with the echo produced by the rock gave this place its name. The Rhine's strong current, combined with the dangerous rocks hidden under the river's surface caused lots of boat accidents. About 200 years ago,Heinrich Heine composed a poem based on the tale about the Loreley. It describes the most beautiful young lady, sitting on the cliff above the Rhine, combing her beautiful golden hair, distracting the shipmen with her beauty and her singing, causing them to crash on the rocks. This stein shows in deep relief the beauty sitting on the rock looking down the Rhine to the left. To her right, the beginning of the Heine poem has been carved into the stein. Roughly translated, the poem goes: I don't know what it means That I am so sad A legend of bygone days That I cannot keep out of my mind. The air is cool and night is coming. The calm Rhine courses its way. T he peak of the mountain dazzles with evening's final ray. The fairest of maidens is sitting up there, a beautiful delight, Her golden jewels are shining, she's combing her golden hair. She holds a golden comb, singing along, as well an enthralling and spellbinding melody. In his little boat, the boatman is seized by it with a savage woe. He does not look upon the rocky ledge But rather high up into the heavens. I think that the waves will devour The boatman and boat in the end and this by her song's sheer power fair Loreley has done. Handcrafted in the traditional way, this 3/4 liter hand-painted stein stands 10 1/2 inches tall and is a limited edition of just 2,500 pieces worldwide. Each stein is individually numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
