This stein was decorated in the so-called "Old German Style" Stonegrey technique:

After cobalt blue color has been applied on the stein, the cobalt is removed with small sponges and tissue from the raised areas so that the cobalt remains in the re-cessed parts of the decor.

After this has been completed, the stein is coated with transparent glaze to "seal" the stein and it is fired in the killn.

This kind of stein gets a very unique look, resulting from the color combination of the natural clay color (grey stoneware) and the cobalt blue coloring.

Alternatively, we do offer this stein in the so-called "cobalt, hand-painted" version as well: After the same production steps as for the "Old German Style" technique, the motifs are painted with color per hand and fired afterwards again.

Both versions have their own charme and it is just a matter of your personal taste that makes you chose what fits best to you.
