THERE ISN'T ANY MORE CLASSICAL WAY ENJOYING A BEER THAN OUT OF A STEIN!
Beer steins from Germany are known all over the world. They are unique and do have a long and rich history.
Brewed according to the "German Purity Law" (just out of hops, malt, barley, yeast and water), steins always have been more than just vessels for the "liquid bread": After cooling the stein in the cellar at home or in a creek, people took it along for getting it re-filled at a pharmacy or local brewery. Their steins kept the beer cool and fresh. Not only that the cool beer served as a thirst squencher, it also provided the necessary engergy needed for continuing the hard, daily work. With time passing by, steins were lidded in order to protect their content against dusst and insects.
Steins became more and more well known and their shapes and decorations reached a wide variety due to customizing.
In the epoch of discovering New Worlds, steins travelled along in the settlers' luggage. With increasing demand, the beer stein production became an important industry for the Westerwald region in Germany. This area was the ideal location for the ceramic industry as there is one of the largest clay resources in the world. Plus the extensive forests did provide the timber, needed for firing the kilns.
