This elaborate stein with ist historical motif was designed in honor of our brave firefighters. The front of the jug shows a fireman in a historical outfit, with a trumpet, water syringe and bucket. In the background are houses in full fire. The sides of the jug show writing bands with the following texts: God to the honor - the next (neighbor) to the defense and One for all - All for one The sides and the lower relief band are decorated with oak motifs. Golf has become more and more popular through the last decades. One of the big challenges in golf is that you do not just compete with others, but that you also do have to play against yourself. The main motif shows a golfer in the past times who just took a shot. The back-ground motifs show a clubhouse with crowd as well a s golfer who's putting. When the ancient Germanic people were lying on their bearskins, they drank their mead from the horns of the aurochs. So horns are one of the oldest drinking vessels. The Maypole The origin of the maypole probably lies with the ancient Germanic tribes, worshipping various forest gods. In the course of the centuries, pagan customs were mixed with Christian ones. The current form of the maypole, a high trunk with a wreath, has been handed down since the 16th century. The setup of the maypole is often combined with a village or town festival, which usually takes place on April 30, May 1 or Pentecost. In Bavaria, the maypole is often elaborately decorated by wrapping the trunk in color, waving ribbons or even carvings. These can represent professions or hobbies. Depending on tradition, the maypole remains standing in the towns until the end of the month, but in some places also until autumn. The tall slender shape of the stein fits perfectly with the maypole theme, which is depicted in particularly deep relief and has been elaborately painted by hand. The maypole theme is framed by a heraldic relief. Below the tree is the lettering Bavaria with lateral national coat of arms and the diamond blue/white motif (Blue and white are Bavaria's national colors). The Loreley is an approx. 450 feet tall steep slate rock on the right river bank of the Rhine River at Sankt Goarshausen and it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The name comes from the old Rhine dialect word "lureln" (murmuring) and the Celtic word "ley" (rock). The heavy currents of the Rhine as well as a small waterfall created a murming sound. This sound, combined with the echo produced by the rock gave this place its name. The Rhine's strong current, combined with the dangerous rocks hidden under the river's surface caused lots of boat accidents. About 200 years ago,Heinrich Heine composed a poem based on the tale about the Loreley. It describes the most beautiful young lady, sitting on the cliff above the Rhine, combing her beautiful golden hair, distracting the shipmen with her beauty and her singing, causing them to crash on the rocks. This stein shows in deep relief the beauty sitting on the rock looking down the Rhine to the left. To her right, the beginning of the Heine poem has been carved into the stein. Roughly translated, the poem goes: I don't know what it means That I am so sad A legend of bygone days That I cannot keep out of my mind. The air is cool and night is coming. The calm Rhine courses its way. The peak of the mountain dazzles With evening's final ray. The fairest of maidens is sitting Up there, a beautiful delight, Her golden jewels are shining, She's combing her golden hair. She holds a golden comb, Singing along, as well An enthralling And spellbinding melody. In his little boat, the boatman Is seized by it with a savage woe. He does not look upon the rocky ledge But rather high up into the heavens. I think that the waves will devour The boatman and boat in the end And this by her song's sheer power Fair Loreley has done.
